Northern Portugal, on the border with Spain, will pleasantly surprise you with its combination of beautiful sandy beaches with dunes and mountains in the background. Historic towns, blue lagoons, and waterfalls reminiscent of Costa Rica, small local restaurants that are cheaper than at home, and beer for just one euro – here, the world still feels right.
Location
Northern Portugal offers stunning beaches with almost white sand, hidden behind sand dunes and mountains in the background. Surf tourism is just slowly making its way here, so you don’t have to worry about fighting for waves. Our surf camp is the first in this area. The accommodation is located in the small town of Caminha, in the northwest of Portugal, about an hour’s drive from Porto. Caminha is part of the coastal section of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago, and it lies on the southern side of the mouth of the Minho River, which forms the border between Portugal and Spain. The entire area is very picturesque, with the wide river mouth revealing sandy beaches at low tide, surrounded by pastures and lush rural landscapes, gardens full of citrus trees and flowers, lined with pine forests that hide blue lagoons and waterfalls, like those in Costa Rica. The fresh climate, clean sandy beaches, and fresh seafood are loved by all. During the summer months, there are plenty of music and cultural festivals. SURF AND STAY - without accompanying programme 560 EUR
Yoga
Yoga is an inherent part of surfing, its stretching exercises help a lot before and after surfing. The villa has yoga mats available for you to stretch out on the terrace. Guided lessons cost 16EUR per person for group yoga or 25EUR for a private one-hour lesson.
Surfing
Surf lessons are in English under the guidance of experienced local instructors Kiko and André, who are licensed for all beaches within 30Km of coastline. This means they will always find the best surf conditions for you and you don’t have to stay on the same beach every day. All beaches are sandy, so safe for lessons that last 1,5 hours. When you’re done, you can still keep your surfboard and wetsuit for another 3 hours for an extra 15 euros. You can enjoy Praia Moledo with its beautiful mountain views and sunsets, Praia Ancora hidden behind a sand dune as well as Praia da Arda or Praia do Cabedelo, where there is an incredibly beautiful and long right-hand wave. This last surfing oasis in Europe is a treasure without crowds of surfers, so you can enjoy lessons and freesurfing in peace. If you don’t get enough, you can also try Kite surfing or Foil.
Accommodation
Accommodation is in a stylish surf villa in Caminha, or in a hostel a few metres from the villa, where a buffet breakfast will also be served each morning. The villa has 2 double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, one room with a double bed and a single room which are separated by a bathroom with toilet. Downstairs is shared room with bunk beds and bathroom. The villa has a spacious equipped kitchen with a living room and chill zone, a terrace and a large garden with BBQ. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the villa so you can surf not only in the waves! In the immediate vicinity of the surfhouse there are small shops, cafes, bakeries with the best pastel de nata, restaurants and bars, with always friendly locals. You can walk to the centre through the picturesque Portuguese streets in a minute. Nothing stops you from strolling around the town and discovering the local gastronomy.

Transportation
The nearest airport is in Porto or you can fly to Lisbon. To search for tickets we recommend using skyscanner.com or kiwi.com (always open in an anonymous window), where you can find the current offer according to the selected date. The earlier you buy the tickets, the lower the price.
If you can’t buy them yourself, we will help you with booking and purchasing with our ticket agent, who charges an administration fee of 20 EUR.
CAR RENTAL
We recommend renting a car at the airport for your entire stay. This will make it easier for you to travel from the airport and at the same time you will be able to go out after the lessons to discover other beaches, mountains, waterfalls or picturesque surrounding villages. Car rental is best through rentalcars.com and the price is around 7 EUR per day.
TRAIN AND BUS
If you’re travelling alone, it’s worth taking the train or bus. You can find connections via https://www.rome2rio.com
From the airport, take the purple metro line E to your chosen station in the centre. The metro departs every 20 to 30 minutes depending on the day of the week and time of day. The journey to the centre takes approximately 30 minutes and costs less than EUR 2.
The train to Caminha goes from Porto from Campanhã station in about 1,5 – 2 hours, the price is around 10EUR and the exit station is right by the surf villa. You can find the connection at https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en.
There is a Flixbus from the same station, which will take you to Viana de Castelo (price 4 EUR). From there you will take a 20 min train ride to Caminha.
INSURANCE
Each participant should have their own travel insurance. As most of us will be doing a sporting activity on the beach, we recommend taking out additional insurance for risk sports and third party insurance.
PROGRAM
The surfcamp program is oriented according to the surf lessons – their time depends on the current conditions and tides. Outside of the program you will still have plenty of free time to relax or go on excursions. We will prepare an orientation program for you. The first and last day is for arrival and departure only.
Surf lessons always start the morning after arrival. The package includes a total of 5 surf days and one free day for relaxation and a trip to see the surrounding beauty. Usually you surf the first 3 days, followed by one day off and then 2 more days of surfing. It all depends on the current conditions and weather, so the order can change. In the morning after breakfast we will take you to the beach and then back to your accommodation after the lessons or freesurfing.
Afternoons are free for excursions to the surrounding beauty, waterfalls, lagoons, walks along the river, or for tasting local specialties. We provide you with a TRAVEL GUIDE – a list of highlights of what to see, where to have the best pastel de nata or where to go for dinner.

FAQ
Can I participate in the surfcamp if I go alone?
Certainly yes, you won’t be the only one, many participants go single and some even go double ? We always connect you all before the trip, so you can travel together and there is a common program in place. We will put you in a room with other individuals or smaller groups, so you really don’t have to be afraid to go out alone.
I have never surfed, can I still participate?
All our surfcamps are designed for complete beginners as well as more advanced surfers. However, the vast majority are complete beginners like you, so don’t worry, you won’t be alone.
Who will I live with if I am not traveling in a larger group?
We always try to divide participants into boys’ and girls’ rooms, if you want your own room, you just choose the package with Private room.
Is the surfcamp program mandatory and do I have to participate in everything?
The whole program is optional, so if you feel tired or just want to chill, let us know, put your feet up in a hammock or relax on the beach. You have a holiday:)
Do I have to pay the full amount after signing up?
After confirmation of the reservation, you pay a deposit of 160EUR, then the rest of money three weeks before the trip.
